Timber Garden Sheds Australia

October 2026
Another exciting cabin build in Sydney! We frequently deliver and build log cabins all over Sydney, as well as all along the Eastern Seaboard. With the recent opening of the new Hexham / Raymond Terrace bypass, the drive from our warehouse in Northern NSW to Sydney became a lot easier. Our latest build in Arcadia was a pure pleasure. Owner Jill made us feel very welcome, providing on-site accommodation that helped greatly with "sitting out" a day of wet weather.
The site
Arcadia and surrounding suburbs are studded with large horse properties like Jill's place. Jill was in need of additional storage space for "horsy" bits.
Our popular SAM10 cabin in full 50mm log thickness fitted her requirements perfectly.
We built the cabin to the left of her high-roof horse float carport. The carport came in very handy during the build, as we were able to use it for our workbench and materials storage.
The driveway access was a breeze, for both our trailer and our ute (aka workshop, tool shed, lunch room, office etc).
The other huge plus was the local helper Jill organized for the build. The local handyman Reinhard was phantastic, highly productive and great to work with.
Steel Purlin Foundation
Here we go again.....A steel purlin base is still the very best and most cost-effective foundation for any log cabin garden shed.
We love doing these, as they eliminate the need for ground leveling, construction of retainer walls and other labor intensive and often expensive ground works.
Plus, these bases are fully height adjustable, using stump tops from LEVELMASTER.com.au
We were recently asked to retrofit these to a cabin built by another company. The existing post "adjustment" was meant to be done by removing tek screws in the post top, and re-screwing them after the entire cabin was lifted with hydraulic jacks. (?) Using fully adjustable stump tops in the first place is definitely the better solution!
Flooring and Walls
We installed the treated pine base frame and the TERMIFLOOR particle board flooring during the first extremely hot day of spring. After enduring temperatures of up to 35 degrees during the day, we really enjoyed the shade in the afternoon!
The weather forecast announced rain overnight, so we covered the just installed particleboard flooring with a tarp. That worked well, as we were able to simply remove the tarp in the morning and get right back into building.
The picture on the right shows a round object on the ground to the left of the cabin. This was the lid of an underground gas bottle drum. Yes, we took great care NOT to hit the gas pipe leading to the main house when digging the foundation holes!
Roof boards
To guarantee the authentic look of our log cabins on the inside, all our cabins come with solid timber t&g boards (so you will NEVER have to look at steel sheeting!). Good thing is also that these already make for a reasonably waterproof roof. And we did need this - the next day was completely rained out.
Just before the rains we managed to install some of the metal top hat battens, and run lighting cables through the factory pre-drilled holes in the center of the logs, located in all four corners of the cabin. These pre-drilled holes hide all cabling, so you never have to put up with ugly surface conduits. NOTE - all final connections must be carried out by a licensed electrician.
Some interesting details
All our 50mm wall log thickness cabins come with double-glazed windows and doors. Also included are European locking mechanisms, which include the famous "Tilt'n'Turn" function. This allows you to open a window even during rain, as rain water still runs off the window at the bottom. It is incorporated in the main black window opening handle, making this a one-move / turn easy action.
The late afternoon sun provided great lighting for the image showing the rear of the cabin. The closeness to the neighboring property meant that we had to place our ladders over the fence and lean them onto the cabin.
The image of the underside of the cabin shows one of the yellow plastic tongues we insert into the pre-drilled electrical holes through the centre of the logs. Sparkies love this, as it makes their job so much easier!
Roofing, gutters and downpipes
We often get enquiries for gutters and downpipes. In theory, we are more than happy to help - BUT.....these do need to be hooked into storm water, and that is not always possible. Simply letting downpipes discharge rainwater into the garden is not the best solution as this creates possible erosion points or run-offs into your neighbor's backyard. Not installing any gutters seems to be ok, as roof runoff is then still distributed along the two roof edges. However, please let us know if you like gutters for your cabin, we are happy to install these on request (small charge applies for materials and labour).
